Best Pub Reopening Adverts by YesMore Agency - people cheersing pints of beer with food outside a bar

Pub Reopening Adverts: Here’s the best

One week since the easing of lockdown restrictions in the UK and pubs allowed to reopen their gardens, terraces, and bits of pavement out the front for us to sit on, the YesMore team have pulled together the best of the pub reopening adverts. Seen better? Share it with us.

TESCO’S PUB REOPENING AD

If you haven’t seen this one doing the rounds on social media, it’s a smart one from Tesco. They placed a print advert in The Times and others encouraging people to go, safely, to enjoy and support the pub if they felt comfortable. It resonates with the audience, it’s hardly going to damage their stellar year of lockdown sales, and it gets them talked about.

HEINEKEN’S “WE’LL MEET AGAIN” AD

What’s lovely about this ad from Heineken is that they haven’t fixated on pubs and restaurants reopening, and instead made an ad that simply resonates with exactly how we’ve all felt over the last year. Not all of us are comfortable meeting again right now as hospitality reopens again, so this ad is incredibly relatable to those – with a touch of humour too.

Interestingly, Budweiser went down a very similar route to Heineken, with their “Good Times Are Coming” ad with a montage of images of people socialising together with beer and Durante’s I’ll Be Seeing You playing over the top.

YOUNG’S WELCOME HOME REOPENING AD

Young’s have gone for a very human and emotion-led approach with their pub reopening advert, which sees a landlady reminiscing about the moments and memories of the pub. She voice overs a poem as we see a mixture of archive footage inter-cut with well-lit shots of her getting ready to open up the doors and welcome punters home. Can’t work out why they lingered on a pint of Guinness for so long when they have their own (lovely) stout, but guessing because they’ve also got people singing Swing Low Sweet Chariot that this might have originally been created for as a Guinness Six Nations advert.

YESMORE CLIENT REOPENS WITH 100,000 FREE APEROL SPRITZ

We’re working with long-standing retained client, Aperol Spritz (Campari UK), to giveaway 100,000 Aperol Spritz. Yep, you heard that right, 100k Aperol Spritz! It’s all in aid of encouraging people back into pubs, bars and restaurants and to celebrate getting back together again. Follow @AperolSpritzUK on Instagram to learn how to get yours.

STELLA TIPS BARTENDERS £1 PER PINT

After a year or so of eating and drinking quite inexpensively at home, and just as we’re all talking about how expensive it is to eat and drink in the pubs, Stella Artois has brought back their ‘Reassuringly Expensive’ tag line. But not only that, they’re donating £1 of every pint they sell to hospitality staff tips. See more here.

THE OAST HOUSE & BREWDOG DRIVING UGC

Given that we’re a social media marketing agency specialising in drinks and on trade marketing, we really loved what The New World Trading Company did for their venue, The Oast House in Manchester. Their reusable plastic pint glasses were branded with “MY FIRST PINT IN 2021” and just screamed “share a pic of me on Instagram” – which many have.

We also loved Brewdog’s user-generated content approach, too. They issued people at their bars with certificates for those that were first back to the pub in 2021.

HEINEKEN AND BLACK TOWER WINE CELEBRATE GROOMING

For our client, Black Tower Wine, we celebrated reopening with the long-awaited desire for many to get their nails done. We tapped into the insight from social conversations and partnered with salons that helped us reach new audiences. Check out the influencer-led approach we’ve taken for Black Tower with some incredibly engaging Instagram Reels: @BlackTowerWine.

Heineken went down a similar route too, with a #ShearGenuis airstream kitted out with a mini hair salon in a pub garden.

AAAAAAND THE NOT SO GREAT (SOZ CARLSBERG)

And then finally, after their somewhat criticised and over-eager pub reopening advert after lockdown 1.0 in 2020…

…Carlsberg opted for a much lower key approach with some slightly unrelatable and flat social posts with far too much design acceptable for social media.
